RPA (Robotic Process Automation)

In this blog, we will delve into what RPA, which stands for Robotic Process Automation, is all about, how it's used, what we at Consid can assist you with, and clarify some questions about RPA and AI. Let's start with a definition: Robotic Process Automation, or RPA, is a technology that automates repetitive and rule-based tasks by using software robots to mimic human actions in digital systems.

What does RPA stand for?

RPA stands for Robotic Process Automation and involves a software robot undertaking tasks that would be time-consuming, repetitive, and prone to error for a human. Through an RPA system, work is automated and can be carried out more efficiently and over a longer period. For example, an RPA solution can be used to automate data entry from various sources into an enterprise system, saving time and reducing the risk of errors.

Is RPA AI?

No, RPA is not AI. RPA simulates human actions to handle tasks such as data entry, form processing, and simple administrative processes. Despite its ability to streamline workflows and improve productivity, RPA itself is not a form of artificial intelligence (AI).
The difference between RPA and AI lies in their capacity for decision-making and learning. RPA follows strict, pre-programmed rules and cannot learn or adapt beyond these rules. AI, on the other hand, involves machine learning and deep learning, allowing systems to learn from data, draw conclusions, and make more complex decisions based on new information.
While some RPA solutions may integrate AI components to create more advanced automated systems, basic RPA itself is not AI. However, this integration can bridge the gap between simple automation and true AI-driven applications, resulting in more intelligent and dynamic systems capable of performing a wider range of tasks.

What are the benefits of RPA?

The benefits of RPA include streamlining workflows, reducing errors and mistakes, increasing scalability and flexibility, and freeing up human resources for more strategic and value-added tasks. RPA can also help improve the customer experience by speeding up processes and reducing response times.

What are RPA solutions?

RPA solutions are software platforms or tools that provide the necessary tools and functions to implement and manage RPA processes. These solutions often include drag-and-drop interfaces for creating and configuring robots, as well as monitoring tools to track and optimize performance.

How does Consid work with RPA?

At Consid, our approach to implementing RPA is careful and strategic to ensure that each automation effort delivers maximum value. Our process begins with a thorough identification of which work processes within the organization are suitable for automation. This involves evaluating potential time savings and efficiency gains, as well as carefully calculating return on investment (ROI). If the ROI proves to be too long or not sufficiently compelling, it may be decided not to proceed with automating that process.

Once a process is selected for RPA, we create a Process Definition Document (PDD). The PDD is an important document that describes the process in detail and defines exactly what is to be automated. This document serves as the basis for the upcoming development.

After the PDD, we develop a Solution Design Document (SDD), which details how the RPA solution will be designed and implemented to meet the specified requirements. The SDD is critical as it ensures that all technical and business aspects are properly addressed.

The development phase follows, where we build and test the RPA process to ensure that it works according to specifications and delivers the desired results. After successful development and testing, we deliver the solution to the customer.

Finally, to ensure that the customer can manage and maintain their new RPA solution effectively, we provide comprehensive training and detailed documentation. This ensures that the customer’s team is well-prepared to handle the system independently and fully benefit from its capabilities.

In conjunction with delivery, we also offer maintenance agreements/support, which in most cases are necessary as RPA is sensitive to changes and optimizations/improvements are often discovered afterwards.

Long-Term Collaboration Reforms – Consid Strengthens Its Position in RPA

IT companies Consid and Best Solutions have had a longstanding collaboration in RPA. Consid will now take a larger portion of the process while Best Solutions targets licenses.
