Caroline Farberger Nominated for “eQualizer of the year”
Caroline Farberger, one of Sweden's most prominent business leaders and tech investors, has been nominated for the prestigious "eQualizer of the year" award at the Consid Awards 2024. This award honors individuals who have made exemplary contributions to gender equality in business and driven positive change. All nominees are interviewed in Digital Influencer Podcast series, where the winners will also be announced. Caroline Farberger is the first guest.
– I’m deeply honored. It’s incredibly rewarding to hear that my work is appreciated, says Caroline Farberger in the podcast.
A Unique Perspective from the Corporate World
Caroline Farberger is known for her courage and value-based leadership. She is the first high-ranking business executive in Sweden to openly share her experience of gender transition, a journey that has given her a unique perspective on diversity and inclusion in the workplace. She describes how, as a man, she previously failed to recognize the gender stereotypes that affect women’s careers.
– I only had to live as a woman for a few months to realize how much I had misunderstood, she explains.
Farberger highlights the disparities in expectations placed on men and women in business, noting that women often face greater demands regarding appearance and behavior. She also emphasizes the importance of showing vulnerability as a strength—a lesson she has incorporated into her leadership style.
– I completely reevaluated my perspective on whether we truly have an equal playing field in the business world. In my naivety as a male CEO, I thought, ‘Diversity and inclusion—check, we’ve got it.’ I was brought up to believe that, as a male CEO, I naturally had everything under control. At least, that was my mindset at the time, she reflects.
Pioneering Leadership
With a background as CEO of ICA Insurance and now serving as a board member and advisor to several companies, Farberger has become a strong advocate for inclusion and diversity in business. Her efforts have not only paved the way for a more inclusive corporate culture but have also inspired thousands to challenge norms and drive change.
– We set the bar pretty high for women in business. It’s no wonder so many women spend time on their makeup, clothing, and so on. As a guy, you can show up with messy hair, unshaven, and in a wrinkled T-shirt, and nobody really cares, she notes.
The nomination highlights Farberger’s groundbreaking work in combining innovation and business development with value-driven leadership. Her story and contributions have promoted a modern business culture where everyone can succeed, regardless of their background. The nomination for Årets eQualizer reads:
“Caroline Farberger is nominated for her outstanding commitment and courage to challenge norms in business and society. As CEO of ICA Insurance, she demonstrated how innovation and business development can be combined with strong value-based leadership. Caroline’s story of her gender transition has not only inspired thousands but has also broken new ground for inclusion in the corporate world. Her efforts have fostered a more inclusive and modern business culture, where everyone has the opportunity to succeed, regardless of background.
