“We are incredibly proud and pleased that our goals have now been approved. It has been a lengthy process. Since scientifically based goals have become a globally recognized standard for companies aiming to reduce carbon emissions, our commitment to SBTi is an integral part of Consid’s climate efforts,” says Nathalie Besèr, Sustainability Manager at Consid.

The Science Based Targets initiative is a collaboration between the UN Global Compact, the World Resource Institute (WRI), the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), and the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). The initiative’s goal is to enable companies to take swift climate action by setting ambitious targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Companies’ goals are considered scientifically based if they align with the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to no more than 2°C above pre-industrial levels, with further efforts to limit it to 1.5°C.

Consid reports to SBTi and has now received approval for its goals. Reducing emissions to combat climate change has long been a part of Consid’s sustainability efforts, alongside the company’s social sustainability initiatives. Consid’s actions to reduce emissions support the goals of the Paris Agreement, which aims to limit global warming to no more than 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.

Consid will:

  • Reduce absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in scope 1 and 2 by nearly 30 percent by 2027 compared to the 2021 level.
  • Reduce absolute greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in scope 3 by nearly 30 percent by 2027 compared to the 2021 level.

Among other measures, the company is reducing its emissions by transitioning to locally produced, renewable, and fossil-free electricity through Bixia. Within three years, 100 percent of the company’s offices will purchase their electricity from Bixia. The company’s technology is recycled through Inrego, and its travel and car policy has become stricter.

“For us, it is a given that we do everything we can to combat climate change. Our ambitious goals have now been approved by SBTi, which are scientifically based and aligned with the UN’s global 1.5-degree target. It is a significant milestone in our journey towards an even more sustainable Consid, where we, together with our customers and suppliers, will work towards significantly lower CO2 emissions and thus meet our long-term goals,” says Peter Hellgren, CEO of Consid.

Consid is also investing in new technology for carbon capture and storage (CCS). An important part of EU’s climate policy is to focus on carbon capture and storage, also known as Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS). Globally, there are approximately 20 larger CCS facilities in operation. The technology is still under development, and government funds are allocated for national projects. Consid has chosen to invest in Climeworks, which has its facility in Iceland.

“Now that our SBTi goals have been approved, Consid has further strengthened its position in the market. Our customers are increasingly focusing on sustainability, a trend that will only continue. We are proud that Consid is at the forefront of sustainability, but we are also humble in the face of the challenges it presents,” says Peter Hellgren.
