The year’s most important esports hackathon is back. This time, the participants will focus on reducing the environmental impact of single-use packaging in the beverage industry using AI. Considition will be held between November 6 and November 23, 2023.

In partnership with Coca-Cola in Sweden, this year’s Considition will aim to develop solutions for sustainable beverage consumption in the future, leveraging intelligent algorithms. While significant progress has been made in the food industry to reduce its climate impact, numerous challenges remain, particularly regarding packaging. The participants of this year’s event will be challenged to create an algorithm that encourages consumers to choose more sustainable ways of consuming beverages.

“We have ambitious sustainability goals, including achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions throughout the entire value chain by 2040. To reach this goal, reducing the climate footprint of packaging is crucial. This year’s hackathon challenge provides us with an opportunity to develop AI solutions for sustainable beverage consumption in the future. We welcome everyone, regardless of previous experience, to participate and help us build a sustainable future for people and the planet,” says Therese Sundberg, Sustainability Manager at Coca-Cola Europacific Partners Sweden.

Considition is one of Sweden’s largest hackathons, with approximately 200 teams and over 400 of Sweden’s brightest developers participating in the competition in previous years. The first Considition was held in 2017, and in recent years, some of Sweden’s most important companies have been involved in organizing the hackathon, such as Axfoundation, Riksbyggen, and Budbee.

“Considition is much more than just a hackathon. The participants create concrete solutions for some of the biggest challenges of our time. I have high expectations for this year’s competition, and it will be incredibly exciting to see what the participants have developed,” says Peter Hellgren, CEO of Consid.

The challenges posed by single-use packaging are also a focus at the EU level. The new Single-Use Plastics Directive (SUP) from the EU regulates the use of single-use packaging to prevent and reduce its impact on climate, marine environment, and human health.

The first prize in this year’s Considition is a trip to Brussels to learn more about AI and sustainability. The competition will be livestreamed, and participants can choose to compete from any of Consid’s 40 offices across Europe or remotely.

“We are very excited to kick off this year’s Considition, which will be the best one yet. Since the first edition in 2017, we have tremendously developed the concept, and being able to offer the participants such an exciting and reality-based challenge together with Coca-Cola in Sweden is extra fun,” says Joakim Andersson, Project Manager for Considition.
