Consid’s “Bring Your Child to Work Day” was a Success
On Wednesday, children gathered at Consid offices across Sweden for a day filled with exciting activities and technology. The initiative, "Bring Your Child to Work Day," gave children the opportunity to experience their parents’ workplace while also getting an introduction to IT and programming.
On October 30, Consid invited employees’ children to its offices for a day packed with engaging activities. Throughout the day, numerous children arrived hand-in-hand with their parents to Consid offices all over Sweden.
Consid’s “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is held annually on the Wednesday during autumn break. The purpose of the day is to introduce employees’ children to their parents’ work while sparking an interest in IT and programming. It also makes it easier for parents working during the break to balance work and family life.
– For us at Consid, “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is about combining family life and work while creating interest in technology and programming. By giving children a fun day at our offices, we hope to inspire the innovators and problem-solvers of tomorrow, says Amanda Heldring, project manager at Consid and organizer of “Bring Your Child to Work Day.”
During the day, children got to try simple coding in the Scratch program, play Minecraft on a shared server, and, at some offices, control a remote-controlled car using Scratch programming. For the older children, there was also an opportunity to learn the basics of HTML coding via CodePen.
– It was really fun to play Scratch and be at mom’s job, says Joline, 7, who joined her mother at the office in Jönköping.
She continues:
– At first, it was hard, but then when they explained it, it was really fun to build with Scratch.
The initiative received much appreciation from both children and parents at Consid. “Bring Your Child to Work Day” is a recurring tradition aimed at engaging the next generation in technology and IT in an inspiring and playful way.
