Fertility App Nominated for “eQualizer of the Year”

The fertility app Bumpy, along with its two founders Elin Øyre and Andrea Olsson, has been nominated for the eQualizer of the Year award at the Consid Awards 2024. This award honors initiatives that have exemplary contributions to promoting gender equality in the business sector and fostering positive change. In a podcast series on Digital Influencer Podcast, all nominees are interviewed, with the winners being revealed gradually. Elin Øyre is the second guest in the series.

Together with Andrea Olsson, Elin Øyre founded the fertility app Bumpy, which is aimed at individuals struggling with involuntary childlessness. Driven by their own personal experiences, they created a platform that not only provides practical tools but also serves as an emotional lifeline for those dealing with fertility issues.

– Today, one in six couples requires medical assistance to start a family, and one in four pregnancies ends in miscarriage. These are incredibly high numbers and, unfortunately, they’re on the rise. When faced with these challenges for the first time, it can feel overwhelming to know where to turn, and that’s where Bumpy steps in to make things easier, says Elin Øyre in our Swedish podcast Digitala influencer-podden.

A Taboo Subject

Elin and Andrea have both experienced infertility firsthand, undergoing numerous examinations and treatments together. After more than 10 years of doctor visits and heartbreak, they decided to launch Bumpy.

– We both felt very alone and isolated during this process. In the beginning, the community aspect was a huge focus for us. We wanted to ensure there was a platform where people could connect with others experiencing the same challenges and emotions, says Elin.

Infertility, along with the many tests and injections required by many to achieve pregnancy, remains a taboo topic. When Elin and Andrea speak with investors, who are often men, it is frequently dismissed as a “women’s issue.”

– When you read about infertility in the media, you often see the narrative that around 80 percent of cases are due to female infertility, but that’s not true. It’s actually about 50/50. In heterosexual couples, 50 percent of cases are linked to an issue on the woman’s side, and 50 percent to an issue on the man’s side.

The two founders hope their app will become the obvious choice for anyone beginning an IVF journey in the future. By continually developing the app and its features, they aim to help their users find the right path and foster a sense of community.

– Right now, we are focusing on refining the matching tool to increase our users’ chances of finding the right fertility clinic from the start.

The motivation behind their nomination for the eQualizer of the Year award highlights the two founders’ commitment and passion for helping others facing infertility. Through their innovative approach to tackling a long-standing issue, they have created a community so no one has to feel alone. The nomination statement reads:

“Bumpy is nominated for its groundbreaking work in addressing infertility. Their vision of providing guidance and community to those struggling with involuntary childlessness has made them an invaluable resource for many. Through the app, Bumpy offers an easy way to find the best fertility clinic via data-driven decisions based on user reviews and individual needs. Bumpy empowers individuals on their fertility journeys and shows that no one has to go through this alone. This is why Bumpy is deserving of this nomination.”
