Q by Consid nominated for the Swedish Equality Prize
Q by Consid has once again been nominated for the Swedish Gender Equality Prize. This national award is presented annually to an entity that has contributed to a more gender-equal society through its work. Since 2013, Q by Consid has actively worked to promote a more inclusive IT industry and gender equality in society.
– I am very proud of the work that Q by Consid has accomplished in recent years. We take the issue of equality and inclusion very seriously and work from several different angles to cover as many aspects as possible in our efforts. Being nominated for the Swedish Gender Equality Prize is a testament to the impact of our work, says Anna Edstedt, Head of Q by Consid.
The Swedish Gender Equality Prize is a national award presented annually to an entity that has contributed to a more equal society through its work. The purpose of the prize is to recognize, reward, and promote outstanding equality efforts, and it can be awarded to public, private, and non-profit organizations.
Since 2013, Q by Consid has been working to promote a more gender-equal IT industry. The tech industry today has a significant influence on shaping the world we live in and the future of society. However, the IT industry is currently composed of barely 30 percent women, a statistic that Q by Consid aims to change.
Q by Consid operates locally in over 40 locations throughout the Nordic region. Through Q by Consid’s ambassadors and local coordinators, both national and local efforts are conducted to change structures and norms within the industry and inspire more women and non-binary individuals to pursue careers in IT and tech.
– We are working both to change the industry’s structures and norms, to make those already in it want to stay. But we also have initiatives such as our mentoring program, Q Mentoria, which aims to attract more people to the industry. Our mentors guide and support women and non-binary mentees in their personal and professional development. Through Q Mentoria, we also aim to highlight role models through our mentors that others can look up to and be inspired by, says Anna Edstedt.
During the nomination period for the Swedish Gender Equality Prize, which ran until October 1st, anyone could submit nominations. Five finalists will be announced in early December, and thereafter, an external prize committee will select the winner of the Swedish Gender Equality Prize 2024.
– In tougher economic times, companies often cut back on their sustainability efforts and initiatives like Q by Consid. We do the opposite; we see social sustainability as a natural part of our operations and will continue to actively work on gender equality and inclusion. Together, we bear the responsibility to create an industry that everyone wants to work in and contribute to positive social development, says Peter Hellgren, CEO of Consid.
