Challenge
Eskilstuna Municipality aimed to optimize its website to achieve a high ranking in Webperf measurements while ensuring accessibility for all users, regardless of their needs or circumstances. Their ambition was clear—to become a pioneer in digital accessibility and service.
The project began at the end of 2021 in collaboration with Consid. The goal was to develop a modern and user-friendly website that not only met the legal requirements of WCAG 2.1 but also delivered high performance, robust security, and an enhanced experience for all users.
– This project is an example of how long-term and strategic work can lead to tangible results. Through a combination of technical improvements and close collaboration, we have succeeded in creating a website that sets a new standard for digital accessibility and performance in the public sector,” says Dennis Fröland, Project Manager at Consid.
Solution
To fulfill Eskilstuna Municipality’s vision, the team worked based on three main pillars: accessibility, performance, and security.
To ensure website accessibility, the team implemented solutions that made it possible for all users, including people with disabilities, to navigate without obstacles. These solutions included error corrections in existing systems, identified through automated scanning tools and manual reviews.
The website’s performance was also significantly improved through a modern and efficient code structure, along with smart optimizations. This resulted in faster loading times and a smoother user experience. At the same time, security was strengthened through continuous updates and improvements that protected user data and minimized the risk of security threats. These measures ensured a stable and secure platform for all users.
– The work was iterative, where we continuously analyzed data and made adjustments to optimize the website’s functionality, says Robin Törn, Developer at Consid.
According to Dennis and Robin, the key to success in the project was the close and effective collaboration between Eskilstuna Municipality and the Consid team.
